Advanced Alternative Text: Graphs, Diagrams, Maps, and Charts
Presenters: Kara Gaulrapp, Sr. Web Accessibility Analyst at ISC, and Nikitas Tampakis, Information Technology Senior Project Leader at Penn Library
Graphs, diagrams, maps, and charts represent concepts and summarize data. Writing an “equivalent” text alternative for a graph or diagram depends on effective image analysis and alt text design. Ultimately, the alt text must replace the figure, rather than simply describing what it looks like.
In this session, we will expand on the audience’s foundational knowledge of alt text through interactive demonstrations of alt text assessment and authoring for more complex figures.
This event takes place on Wednesday, June 30th, 12:00pm-1:30pm
